The Community Singers, Inc. is looking forward to its 50th year of providing musicals and concerts in Dover. In 1950 the group was known as the Dover Century Club Ensemble. Men were invited to join in 1952. From 1963 to 1968, the group presented combined formal concerts with capsuled versions of musicals at the Capital Theatre. The Singers debuted on June 13, 1968 at William Henry Middle School with "The Most Happy Fella," their first full-length musical. After that, their season included one complete musical, choral entertainment at nursing homes and hospitals, and a formal concert. In 1979, children's theatre became a part of their musical endeavors. All of us hope to be bringing you musical theatre for many years to come.
Currently the Singers have a select ensemble that performs at community functions such as Dover Days, the Fourth of July celebrations, Kent County Parks & Recreation Halloween extravaganza at Brecknock Park, and other events as well as our regular musical productions.
Producing a musical is not only a great deal of work, it's a lot of fun! If you would like to join us in our next production (whether on or off stage) or would like to join our select ensemble, please contact our president, Debbie Anderson, at 736-9998. |
